"Lawyer on the Go: Adventures and local food Insights from a Legal Nomad"

As a litigator, it is not unusual for me to travel all over Peninsular Malaysia for cases.

Early this year, I traveled to Alor Setar, Kedah with a co-counsel "Mr. T". The best part is, we were travelling for a criminal case and we stepped in to defend the accused in a pro-bono manner.

Ok, first let me explain what is "pro-bono"?

Pro-bono refers to providing free legal services for the public good. Lawyers often take on pro bono cases as a way to give back to their communities and help ensure that everyone has access to legal representation, regardless of their financial circumstances.

So yes, Lawyers are compassionate! Trust me!

Now let's continue the travel story....Mr. T is quite the globetrotter and never fails to hunt down the most mouth-watering Court or town eats, eagerly sharing the spoils with yours truly. Clearly, we're both foodies on a mission! Ha-ha-ha!

Mr. T had been raving about this legendary Nasi Lemak that was apparently being served up in the Alor Setar Court's "Bar Room" (a place where lawyers hang out to discuss their cases and take a breather from the action). Needless to say, we were already plotting our Nasi Lemak feast post-trial.

On that fateful morning, we arrived at the Alor Setar Court, no strangers to the familiar drill of representing our client. With the Full Trial on the docket, we were primed and ready to cross-examine the first prosecution witness. But as we strolled into the Courtroom, our jaws dropped at the sight of a notice announcing that our Judge had been called away to attend to an urgent case in another state. Thus, our case was to be mentioned in a nearby Courtroom for a future date. The legal eagle life, folks!

So, after getting our legal matters sorted in the neighboring Courtroom, we dashed over to the Bar Room with one thing on our minds: the highly-anticipated Nasi Lemak feast that had eluded us thus far. Alas, our spirits were crushed when the cafeteria's kakak informed us that the Nasi Lemak had been sold out. Talk about a foodie nightmare after a 450-kilometer journey! Just when we thought our day couldn't get any worse, the kind kakak offered us a unique twist: toasted bread slathered with Nasi Lemak-style sambal and topped with an egg. We eagerly accepted her gracious offer and waited with bated breath for the Roti Bakar Sambal Nasi Lemak!

Believe me when I say that the Roti Bakar Sambal Nasi Lemak was an absolute game-changer - perfectly made and downright delicious! So lawyers, mark my words - if you ever find yourself journeying to the Alor Setar Court, make sure you don't miss out on this awesome Nasi Lemak experience! Our next Hearing is in November 2023 and the "kakak" gave us her number so that we can pre-order the NASI LEMAK before we arrive. A big shout out to the "kakak Nasi Lemak".

Let me introduce you to another food that is simply irresistible when you're in Alor Setar town - Nasi Kandar Yasmeen. With its perfectly balanced mix of spicy, sweet, and savory flavors, and its tantalizing aroma that comes from the special blend of herbs and spices used in the curries, you simply cannot afford to miss out on this local delight when you're in town!

Let's show some love to our local community food wherever we go! Don't forget to share your go-to food spots and their locations with me, so we can all indulge in the deliciousness together!
