The Will Wizard: How Mr. Tan Made Estate Planning Less Dreadful
A lawyer named Mr. Tan practised will writing in a small Malaysian village. In creating wills for his clients, Mr. Tan was renowned for his thoroughness and attention to detail. He was renowned for his quirky humour.
One day, Mr. Tan acquired Mrs. Lee as a new client. The retired teacher, Mrs. Lee, had accumulated a sizeable sum of money over the years. She wanted to make sure that when she passed away, her possessions were dispersed fairly.
Mrs. Lee and Mr. Tan sat down as he started to go over the different elements of creating a will. Mrs. Lee listened closely and nodded her head in accord as he talked.
Mr. Tan: "Now, Mrs. Lee, you must be certain of who your beneficiaries are. You shouldn't leave anything to chance".
"I realise", Mrs. Lee said.
"Additionally, be sure to select an executor who you can trust", said Mr. Tan. "After your death, this person will be in charge of handling your estate."
As Mr. Tan spoke, Mrs. Lee nodded once more while taking notes.
"And lastly, be sure to have a sense of humour", advised Mr. Tan. "After all, the best legacy is laughing".
Mrs. Lee gave him a perplexed glance.
She asked, "What do you mean?"
Unable to help himself, Mr. Tan grinned and said, "well, you know what they say," he replied. "There is power in the will."
"Well, you know what they say," he replied. The saying "Where there's a will, there's a relative!"
Although Mrs. Lee rolled her eyes at the bad joke, she couldn't help but laugh.
Mr. Tan, that's OK, she said. "I believe I have it,"
"Great!" Mr. Tan continued, still beaming. "I'll make sure to draft a will that will make your surviving loved ones laugh all the way to the bank,".
Mrs. Lee left Mr. Tan's office with much more confidence in her will, and as she went down the street, she found herself laughing at Mr. Tan's odd jokes.
